Can you trust God when your life hurts?

Can you trust God when your life hurts?

This is the question that we will be answering in the following blog. Why follow this blog? So that if you have suffered adversity or are in the process of going through a difficult time in your life this blog will be an encouragement to you. I will provide encouragement for you that God has revealed to us in his word.

We read in the book of Job about the attitude that Job’s friends had. The three friends assumed that all of Job’s problems were because of the sin that was in his life. And we know from reading the book of Job that this was not true. Job trusted God during this very difficult time in his life.

And even today people assume the same thing that our problems are a result of sin in our life. There were a number of people that made the statement “the calamity that came to New Orleans (Katrina) was because of the sin in that city.”

Just as in the book of Job we know that not all of our problems are a result of sin. We all have suffered some form of the adversity in our life. And each one has asked the question: Can I trust God? Is God trustworthy? Or maybe just simply the question; Why?

God has a plan for you and that is to spend eternity with him. John 3:16 “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.”

During the nine years that I served as a volunteer chaplain at Baylor hospital in Dallas I observed many people suffering from adversity or illness in their life. Some had only a few days or maybe a few hours left on this earth. While others recovered and had many more years on this earth I learned many things as a result of that experience. I will share what I learned from that experience on this blog. That experience enriched my life greatly.

Probably one of the greatest lessons that I learned was that I must keep my eyes on God. When I keep God at the center of my life I do not have to worry. Because God has promised to take care of me. As David wrote in: Psalm 139:3 “You search out my path and my lying down and are acquainted with all my ways.”
